Mission |
The assembly is the representative body of both researchers in the sciences and scholars in the humanities in the Netherlands. At a mature stage it functions as a third chamber in Dutch parliament, jointly with the Dutch Senate and House of Parliament. The Trias Politica has the separation of powers of the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary branches of government. A Tessares Politica has also an Epistemic branch, consisting of an Economic Supreme Court concerning the national budget and an Assembly of Sciences and Humanities as a third chamber for issues wider than the national budget. |
Motive | Governments and institutions already seek the advice from the sciences and the humanities, but it still happens far too often that the advice is misrepresented or used selectively or that there are pressures by commerce and politics and media that violate the basic integrity of research. There is a multitude of organisations in the sciences and humanities that work to advancement and protection, but this also causes dispersement of influence, and it often also means a loss of integration over various fields of enquiry. A national assembly of science and learning will also be a fallible institution, as we remain human, but it will provide for a better forum to table issues and work towards representative statements. The current national academia are too hierarchical and a national assembly will better represent the whole body of researchers and scholars. |
Aim | The present aim is to start with the creation of this assembly. Relevant aspects are:
|
Design | The assembly must be designed like a senate or house of parliament, but remain suitable for the objectives of an assembly of science and learning. For example there can be 99 seats, and the membership of wndash has annual elections for 33 seats. Chosen representatives would eventually have near fulltime employment. |
Bodies | See issues for the set up of the initiative. See also the currently recognised types of membership or participation. |
There will be various interest groups, fractions and committees: organisation of the assembly. |
|
One such committee discusses the actual rules and regulations of the assembly, first elections, constitutional meeting. | |
The idea of wndash originates from theoretical foundations in philosophy of science, methodology, forum theory and political economy. The discussion of these principles will differ from the practical discussion in rules and regulations. |

Case | An example case in Dutch: Forum theorie met toepassing voor het milieu. |
